NILES – The Niles Ring Lardner seventh grade Gold boys basketball team lost a 29-28 thriller to Benton Harbor on Monday night.
Trailing 17-13 at half, the Vikings dug in defensively to tie the score at 20 heading into the fourth quarter.
Niles pulled ahead with under three minutes to play but could not hang on as a shot at the buzzer bounced off the rim and out.
Aaron Pierce and Anthony Bice lead the Vikings with 11 and seven points respectively. Elbert Briggs and Gevanta Nichols added four points each, while Alex Wright had a key basket.
The Vikings played solid team defense and showed a lot of character in the loss.
The Gold team is back in action today against Schmucker at home at 4:45.
