ANN ARBOR – It appears that Lloyd Carr will walk away from the University of Michigan football program today.
Reports are coming out of Ann Arbor that Carr told his players Sunday afternoon at a team meeting that he would announce his retirement today at a 10 a.m. press conference.
Carr confirmed his decision Sunday to the Associated Press, but would not say more.
Carr has spent the past 13 years as the head coach of the Wolverines. He won a share of the 1997 national championship, won five Big Ten Conference titles and won more than 120 games. He has a 17-9 record against top 10 teams.
Through the first half of those 13 years, Carr had a winning record against arch-rival Ohio State and went 4-2 in both games.
Since then, Carr coached teams have lost six of the last seven games to the Buckeyes and have lost four straight bowl games.
Speculation is that Carr will become the associate athletic director at Michigan.
