This is the calm before the storm.
Fall sports his wrapping up for 2007 and the winter sports season is rapidly approaching.
It's a new world of athletics in the state of Michigan thanks to a court decision over the summer.
Volleyball moved to the fall and enjoyed a successful first year.
Now as we head into mid-November and early December, basketball, for both boys and girls, takes center stage along with wrestling.
This will be the first year of girls' basketball being played in the winter like the boys do.
Much has been made about the switch, but none of us really know how it is going to turn out until the teams actually get on the court and compete for an entire year.
One thing is for sure, there is going to be plenty of action to choose from as games will be played four nights a week.
Area hoop fans will be able to find games on Mondays, Tuesday, Thursday, Fridays and even some Saturdays.
That leaves Wednesdays and Saturdays for our area wrestling teams to compete.
This is going to be an interesting season in area basketball.
Long-time Niles coach Jim Arnold will be working the sidelines for the final time, while over in Dowagiac, coach Greg Blomgren is going to coach both the boys and girls teams.
It will be interesting to follow both men.
So get ready basketball and wrestling fans.
Now is your time.
