NILES – In the only contested race on the ballot, Betty Arndt defeated Brent "Pugsley" Wright for the City of Niles' Third Ward seat, 94-65.
Less than 900 voters turned out for Tuesday's election.
Mayor Mike McCauslin, First Ward Councilwoman Georgia Boggs and Second Ward Councilman Dan VandenHeede had no opposition and will serve new four-year terms.
In the Fourth Ward, Bruce Williams took the seat over Bob Burch, who announced last week he was dropping out of the race. Even though he had asked no one to vote for him, he still received 100 votes. Williams had 224.
The proposal for Dial-A-Ride was renewed for two years, 555-332, but the request from Lake Michigan College was defeated 490 to 400. The request from LMC was for an additional 0.49 millage for 10 years. The proposal for Dial-A-Ride was a 0.5 mill levy.
The only proposal on the ballot in Niles Township was the LMC millage request. The proposal also failed 662-317.
