The Michigan High School Athletic Association football playoffs get under way tonight around the state.
We are fortunate in southwest lower Michigan to have several teams headed to the post season.
Buchanan and Cassopolis will begin play tonight, while Dowagiac will open up the playoffs on Saturday evening.
The Rangers are the lone area team with a home game.
Cassopolis will take on Lake Michigan Catholic at William F. Scott Field beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The Rangers are in the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
Cassopolis (8-1) will be hoping for better results than its first trip to the post season in 2006. The Rangers were favored against Decatur, but came up a little short in its opening round contest.
Lake Michigan Catholic (7-2) will be looking to make it back-to-back upsets as the Lakers knocked off previously undefeated Eau Claire last Friday night.
Buchanan and Dowagiac both have to hit the road, but they don't mind because it is all about getting into the playoffs.
The Bucks (7-2) are headed to Battle Creek Pennfield (7-2) tonight for a 7:30 contest.
Buchanan is in the playoffs for the third time in the last four years. Pennfield is making its nine consecutive appearance.
The Chieftains (6-3) are headed to South Haven (8-1) on Saturday night to take on a Rams team that defeated Dowagiac 70-20 back in the season opener.
We want to wish all of our teams good luck this weekend as they try to extend their season at least another week.
If you haven't gotten out to see the Rangers, Bucks or Chieftains, take this time to do so.
