If you're looking for a safe and fun way for your children to be able to trick-or-treat this year, bring them to Niles' annual Downtown Safe Trick-or-Treat event, which is taking place this Saturday from 4 to 5 p.m.
Before trick-or-treating starts, be sure to bring the children to the Halloween Costume Contest, which will take place at the Niles District Library from 2:30 to 4 p.m. This is the same contest that took place at the Riverfront Amphitheatre in previous years.
Costume Categories include cutest, scariest, funniest and book characters.
Age Divisions will be 0 to 4-year-olds; 5 to 8-year-olds and 9 to 12 years old.
A $25 book store gift certificate will be awarded to each age group/category winner, plus dozens of door prizes throughout the afternoon.
Parents and children may pre-register in the library's children's department. For more information on the costume contest, contact the library.
This is the sixth year for the costume contest and eighth year for safe trick-o-treating.
The event is geared toward children 12 and under and gives them a chance to get great treats from local businesses in and around the community who will be set up along the sidewalks on Main Street between Fourth and Front streets.
Everyone is invited as the event is open to the public free of charge.
