BUCHANAN – Berrien Springs' volleyball team came into Buchanan Wednesday evening and out hustled, out hit and totally out played the Bucks taking a 3-1 win in Lakeland Conference play 25-21, 25-21, 24-26, 25-24.
"Absolutely out worked, out hustled and our defense was atrocious tonight," Buchanan coach Lisa Holok said of her teams play. "Berrien Springs came ready to play tonight. We came ready to play too, but I don't know, once the whistle blew it was like it vanished."
In game one Berrien, (3-3 in the Lakeland), was up 18-11, but the Lady Bucks fought back to cut the lead to two, 23-21 before dropping the game. In the second game the Shamrocks opened up a 15-4 lead after an 11 point run. Again the Lady Bucks scratched their way back into the game trailing 20-24 but again came up short.
Game three saw Buchanan, who dropped to 3-3 in the conference, take a 13-7 lead before letting it slip away. Berrien tied the game at 18 and went on to take a 22-19 lead. This time the Buchanan girls were able to put together a final push to take the 26-24 win to force a fourth game.
The final game saw the Shamrocks take command of the game early and cruise to the final 25-14 win and match victory. "We just never really settled down , we were very high error hitting. They just out worked us and out hustled us on defense. They never really ever let the ball hit the floor and we were content to let the ball hit the floor. That was our problem," Holok said.
