Niles netters ready for regionals with victory

NILES – The Niles varsity tennis team tuned up for Thursday's Division 2 tennis regionals with a 7-1 non-league win over visiting Coloma Tuesday afternoon.
Niles swept the Comets in doubles action and took the one, two, and three singles matches.
Tuesday was also a special day for three of the Vikings. Seniors Jordan Parks, Adam Jenkins, and Chris Archer played their final prep tennis match on the Vikings' home courts and were recognized for their dedication to the team.
Parks, Niles' No. 1 singles defeated Tony Hiler 6-0, 6-2. Zach Payne got past Kyle Hauch 6-3, 6-4 at two singles and Kyle Lee picked up 6-3, 6-2 wins over Nathan Conrad at three singles.
Coloma's lone win came at the No. 4 singles spot where Travis Steinhoff defeated Adam Jenkins 6-3, 6-2.
In the doubles sweep for the Vikings' Matt Ftacek and Dustin Jankoviak teamed up for a 6-0, 6-3 win at one doubles over Brendon Deford and Patrick Fowler.
Brad Benjamin and Joran Arnold had little trouble with Dathan Tenter and Mike Atherton with a quick 6-0, 6-0 win at two doubles.
The three doubles pair of Chris Archer and Anthony Gladden got past Javin Mitchell and Shaw Collins 6-3, 6-4, while Ricky Briand and Colin Latislaw came away 6-4, 6-4 winners over Preston Howard and Tony Hart-Wilson in four doubles action.
