Buchanan volleyball team ousted in semifinals

BRONSON – The Buchanan varsity volleyball team was defeated by Carleton Airport in the semifinals of the Bronson Invitational on Saturday.
The Lady Bucks defeated Lakeland Conference co-leader Edwardsburg in the quarterfinals, 25-19, 21-25 and 15-13.
Buchanan defeated Brandywine in pool play 25-10 and 25-13, while it was defeated by Grand Blanc 15-25 and 15-25. The Lady Bucks also lost to Carleton Airport 23-25 and 17-25.
The Lady Bobcats were defeated in pool play by Edwardsburg 12-25 and 7-25.
Edwardsburg was defeated by host Bronson (9-25, 17-25) and Grand Blanc (23-25, 21-25).
The Lady Bucks got 33 kills and 45 digs from Courtney Miller, while Jayme O'Bryant finished with 20 kills and 40 digs.
Anna Callahan finished the tournament with 13 blocks, while Taylor Henry and Emily Ross had six blocks each.
Buchanan also got 77 assists and seven aces from Ross, while Rachel Downs had 68 digs.
Edwardsburg's Evie Tafunai had 29 kills, two aces and 12 digs, while Jeni Bollenbacher had 35 digs and four aces, Stephanie Koontz finished the tournament with 32 kills, 28 digs and two aces.
The Lady Eddies also got 28 kills, 30 digs, two aces and six blocks, while Callie Brey had 3 digs.
No individual statistics were provided by Brandywine.
