Accidents cause two deaths in Cass County

CASSOPOLIS – Cass County Sheriff Joseph Underwood Jr. reports his office is investigating a hunting accident that occurred Friday evening, Oct. 5, on M-216 near Sheldon Creek Road, Marcellus Township.
Officers on the scene reported that Deburl David Foulk, 32, of Fremont, Ind., fell from his tree stand and suffered injuries causing his death.
The sheriff's office was assisted by the Marcellus Fire Department and Ambulance Service. The incident remains under investigation.
Underwood Jr. also reports his office is investigating a fatal accident which occurred Thursday, Oct. 4, at approximately 5 a.m. The accident was on M-40, just north of U.S. 12 in Porter Township.
Emergency personnel were called to the scene of the single-vehicle accident. On arrival, the vehicle was found to have struck a tree and caught fire.
The driver of the car was unable to exit the vehicle after the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cause of the accident remains under investigation.
The driver's identity was withheld pending further investigation of the accident and lab results from the driver.
