NILES – It took just over an hour for the Mishawaka (Ind.) varsity volleyball team to take care of business at Niles and head back south of the border leaving with a 3-0 win.
Mishawaka polished off the Vikings 25-17, 25-8, 25-10.
After staying with the Cavemen through the first game, Niles lost any momentum that it may have had. Niles fell behind early in game two, 10-1, and could never get a run going against the talented Indiana team. The third and final game was a carbon copy of the second with the Vikings falling behind 12-2.
"We had plenty of opportunities and we were right in it in game one," Niles coach Linda Goodrich said. "Working on blocking and carrying out our game plan. Game two and three we deflated and we were just not able to come back. We certainly are a stronger team then what this game showed tonight. We struggled so much at the serve receive pass that we were not being able to get into our system."
Mishawaka had 17 ace serves in the three game match.
Demi Schrader led the Vikings with eight assists and eight digs, Samantha Brawley finished the night with 12 digs and Kennedy came away with nine.
"We don't see this caliber of this team until we get to the state caliber teams, so we want to invite all of those hard core nice volleyball teams from south of the border to only make our program better," Goodrich said.
Mishawaka's Jenna Luke led her team with 16 kills and eight aces. Alex Schmidt had 29 assists and four aces.
