NILES – A Marine who gave his life while serving in Iraq will be remembered in Niles.
Last summer the U.S. Marine Corp Engineer Company B of South Bend, Ind., assisted the Bend of the River Conservation Club with the initial steps in its rifle range modification project, as a training exercise.
Later, they were deployed to Iraq, where one of the young men who helped work on the range was killed in action, Cpl Aaron L. Seal USMC.
Last winter, the club decided when the range was complete it would be named after this brave young soldier.
A ceremony dedicating the newly modified rifle range at 900 Mayflower Road, Niles, will be held Sunday, Sept. 9 at 2 p.m.
Seal's family has been invited and has accepted the invitation to the dedication. A contingent from the USMC Engineer Marine Company B will also be in full attendance with full Color Guard and will offer their 21 gun salute to their fallen friend and comrade.
The American Legion will also be in attendance, offering the soldier's prayer and taps.
Corporal Seal's step-father has accepted the honor of firing the first shot on the newly modified range.
