Parents need to do their part

Parents are probably as anxious for school to begin as are their offspring.
Teachers will be decorating their classrooms with interesting posters and displays.
The school administrators are probably planning projects and activities which are meant to reinforce all they have stressed in the past few years on the problem of bullying in the schools.
Everyone must do their part to make sure this mean and destructive activity ceases to exist in our schools.
Parents can become part of the solution by talking to their children. Bullying should be reported just as other abuse. Possible ways to deal with other kids who call names, push and attack other students should be investigated.
Children should be excited to go school, not fearful that they will be made fun of or worse.
Schools need to do a better job of monitoring places where abuse most often occurs, like the bathrooms and playgrounds.
Too often we have seen what happens when those who were bullied take the situation into their own hands and bring weapons to school.
Let's have a safe and happy year. Listen to and talk with your children and help the schools seek solutions to this problem.
