BANGOR, Maine – The two teams that most people were picking to play for the Senior League World Series championship never even made it to the title game.
Instead of Hawaii and Texas East doing battle, it was Georgia and defending champion Venezuela in the title game on Saturday in Bangor.
The defending champions were no match for Cartersville, Ga. as they were blown out in the finals, 9-0.
The big blow in the game came off the bat of Cole Montgomery, a three-run home run. Chris Huth tossed a one-hitter to give Georgia the championship.
Huth's performance came against the top hitting team at the World Series.
Venezuela came into the contest having 62 hits. That was 15 more than the next closest teams – Texas East and Hawaii.
Venezuela got its lone hit of the contest in the third inning as Angel Rodolfo Zea singled.
Georgia finished with 13 hits, led by Cole Payne, who was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI.
Garison Boston was 2-for-4 with a triple and a RBI.
Montgomery hit a 3-2 pitch in the fourth to make it a 4-0 contest.
It was all Huth from there as he completely handcuffed the Venezuela hitters.
The game can be seen via tape delay on Aug. 30 on ESPN2.
