NILES – A bomb threat at the Niles Inn and Conference Center Saturday evacuated the entire building and closed the parking lots for most of the day.
According to the police report, a call came in to the Niles Dispatch Center at approximately 10:36 a.m. from someone stating that her boyfriend had purchased bad drugs at the motel and that a bomb was set to go off at 1 p.m. The caller then hung up.
Officers from the Niles Police Department arrived at the scene and advised assistant general manager Charles Porch of the situation.
Porch had his employees start a search of the building while a bomb dog from the Michigan State Police Post in Paw Paw was on its way.
A decision was made to evacuate the building, which included a church group meeting there Saturday morning.
The building was searched by Michigan State Trooper Tony Marshall and his K-9 with no explosives being found. The entire parking lot of the Niles Inn was closed during the search. The Howard Township Fire Department was on scene assisting for a fund raiser and helped with the closing of the parking lot.
Both Porch and Niles Police Chief Ric Huff said Monday morning the case is still under investigation.
