NILES – Antique cars, hot rods, Corvettes, Mustangs and Chevys of all kind are just a few of the cars that can be seen at the 13th annual AAA All Car and Truck show.
The event, which is taking place on Saturday, Aug. 4 at 9 a.m., gives spectators a chance to see all kinds of beautifully restored cars and trucks from the 1900s and up.
"Anyone can enter," Tom Rasler, Chairman for the car show said. "All makes, all models and all years are accepted."
Registration for the event will be held Saturday morning at 9 a.m., with a $12 entry fee. All vehicles will be on display throughout the day. Awards will be given at 3 p.m., as a drive-through judging format will be used.
"This is the 13th year for AAA to sponsor the car show and every year it gets better and better," Rasler said.
He stated that one reason the car show has become so popular is the fact that Riverfest is a free festival, it's in a nice area and there is great food and fun things to do.
"When you think of a festival, you think the Venetian or the fairs, but Riverfest isn't like those. This is a free festival and it's one of only a few in the area. We don't charge a gate fee of $5, $10, $15 for people to get in like other places do. Plus there is so much free entertainment," he said.
Rasler also said that people who come to the area from other cities and states really comment on the atmosphere that surrounds the Riverfest.
"They like it, they say it's a great family affair, and they are most impressed that so much is offered, even during the car and truck show. Usually, when you go to car shows, you are limited to a hot dog and chips. Not here. You have so many choices and if you car people, carbohydrates and cars go together. We like our burgers and fries," Rasler said.
AAA Michigan has been the only major sponsor of Riverfest and the car and truck show for the past 13 years.
"It's amazing what this has turned out to be. I can remember when it first started, there were just a few food vendors and events, now it's an entire weekend filled with fun things to do. I think it's one of the best free community events in Southwest Michigan and it makes for a good family affair," Rasler added.
