Tip leads police to 45 pounds of pot

CASSOPOLIS – Cass County Drug Team responded to a tip from the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office on July 27 at about 9 a.m. to a residence in the Twin Lakes area where they recovered 45 pounds of marijuana.
The drugs were found at a Wayne Township residence in the 25000 block of 68th Street, Dowagiac.
Upon their arrival, detectives located two large bricks of marijuana weighing a total of 45 pounds, numerous items of packaging materials and several scales.
Arrested was Christina Gutierrez, 25, who was home at the time. Gutierrez was lodged and charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana and maintaining a drug house. She was arraigned in the Cass County District Court, where her bond was set at $10,000 cash/surety.
A warrant was obtained for the second occupant of the home, 26-year-old Jose Andres Lara. He turned himself in at the Cass County Jail on July 30 and was arraigned in Fourth District Court, where his bond was set at $25,000 cash/surety.
Lara was charged the same as the female subject, however, he is facing second or subsequence marijuana charges.
