CASSOPOLIS – A man was arrested Thursday afternoon after many people alerted police that he was allegedly approaching children in two counties for immoral purposes.
Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports that his department arrested a 32-year-old male on charges of soliciting a child for immoral purposes.
Cass County deputies received a call in Newberg Township of a white male subject in a dark blue Chevy Sports Utility Vehicle watching children and asking them to do obscene things.
St. Joseph County had also received similar calls. Citizens attempted to block the subject in at a public access site when he fled the area.
Cass County and St Joseph county deputies attempted to locate the vehicle in the area at which time more reports came in from Vandalia and Cassopolis of the same situation and vehicle approaching children.
Cass County deputies located the subject on Decatur Road in Penn Township where he was stopped and arrested for operating without insurance, fleeing and eluding and soliciting a child for immoral purposes.
The Cass County Sheriff's Office asks that anyone that has had similar incidents involving this vehicle to contact their local law enforcement.
