NILES – Niles artist Liz Fisher will display some of her work Thursday, July 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Frame of Mind Gallery in downtown Niles.
Fisher, a Niles resident, will have around 30 pieces on display, which range from artwork of animals and people to flowers and colorful paintings.
Some of her work includes Storm Rides, which features horses running on the beach during a storm; Embrace, which is very colorful and often reminds people of a starry night; and a Calalily, which is a painting of a lily with a black background.
"It's very fun and therapeutic," she said.
Fisher began painting eight years ago and has been creating eye-catching work since. "My brother used to paint and one day I took one of his canvasses and just started throwing paint on it and I really liked the way it turned out."
Fisher is no stranger to art, though. She has always drawn pictures, mostly of children and would often give the portraits as gifts.
"When I started painting, I did a lot of flowers, but now I have a wide variety of paintings I like to do."
Fisher uses a canvas and acyclic paint. Her designs are usually never planned, as she likes to start with a series of colors she has in mind. "I have no idea what the end result will be. I just start and a painting is created," she said.
"I like to see people stop and look at my drawings. I often wonder what they see and if it's different than what I created. I also like it when people buy my drawings and hang them in their homes," she added.
Some of Fisher's work has been displayed at Barnes &Nobles, Riverfront Cafe, County Down and she is hoping some of her work will be featured in the Paris Soda Shop.
She also hopes to one day move some of her work to the gallery room at the Four Flags Trading Co., a family-owned business where she is employed. Fisher lives in Niles with her husband, Dave, and their two daughters Cricket, 17, and Leah, 15.
