State tournaments well run

Congratulations to the Brandywine and Howard Township Cal Ripken Baseball organizations for their efforts in hosting the Michigan state tournaments this past weekend.
The events at Firemen's Park and Pepper Martin Park were well organized and ran like a top despite some pretty stifling weather conditions.
The local volunteers who helped staff the event had both facilities in tip-top condition. The fields looked great and the concession stands were stocked properly for the patrons.
Not only did the organizers do a great job, but so did the local teams who took part in the tournament.
Howard Township grabbed a pair of championships – winning the U10 and U12 titles. Brandywine captured the U9 crown.
A fourth team, the Howard Township U12 team, finished second on Monday night.
Hats off to all the teams that came together and participated in the tournament.
The play on the field was exciting, but more importantly, the sportsmanship on and off the field was exemplary.
We would hope that both facilities are awarded state championship tournaments again in the future, and perhaps even a regional tournament.
