Dowagiac to defend state title on Saturday

MASON – Dowagiac, Cassopolis and Eau Claire will be among the teams competing at the Scholastic Clay Target Program Michigan Trap State Championship on Saturday.
The event will be held at the Michigan Trapshooting Association in Mason.
Youth teams in four divisions will compete for SCTP state titles. The winners will advance to the national championships for skeet and sporting clays July 13-15 at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio, Texas; or for trap Aug. 5-7 at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex in Sparta, Ill.
Dowagiac won a state championship with Konnor Smith, Jason Hurrle, Art Springsteen, Ryan Laylin and Jake Shelton. That team hit 396 out of 500 targets.
