Mystique 16U team goes 2-2 at Sparkler tourney

NILES – The Michiana Mystique 16U softball team won two out of four games at the Sparkler Tournament in Denver, Colo.
The Mystique blanked the Wildcats from Missouri in their opening game of the tournament, 7-0. The Mystique dropped a 4-0 decision to the California Flames before falling to TCB of Texas in their third game, 8-7.
The Mystique rebounded to blank the Golden Eagles of Colorado, 10-0.

Erin Burleson (4-1) picked up the victory for the Mystique as she tossed a perfect game with six strikeouts.
Amanda Trimmer homored for the Mystique, who also got a double from Burleson.
Breanna Shannon, Nicole Nickoson, Maggie Ernsberger, Trimmer and Jessica McClellan all drove in runs. Nickoson was credited with a pair of RBIs.

Ernsberger had three hits in a losing effort.
Brianna Widmoyer (0-5) suffered the loss.

Texas' TCB scored all eight of its runs in the first two innings and then held off a furious Mystique rally.
McClellan (0-2) took the loss for the Mystique.
Offensively, Ernsberger had a home run and four RBIs, while Nickoson doubled and drove in a run.
Also driving in a run were Kelci Garcia and Chelly Gaeddert.

Widmoyer picked up her first win of the season as she tossed a two-hitter.
The Mystique scored five runs in the first inning to break the game open.
Trimmer doubled and drove in four runs for the Mystique, who got two hits from Garcia, Shannon, Ernsberger and McClellan.
McClellan drove in four runs, while Nickoson had two RBIs.
