Niles golfers having big summer on the links

NILES – Even though the Niles High School Boys golf season is a long way away due to the MHSAA ruling that moved the boys season to the spring , the Vikings boys are showing that they will be a force in the 2008 season.
They golfers have got off to a great start in their summer tournaments.
Senior Alex Welch placed seventh with a two-day total of 155 (78-77) at the par 72, 6925-yard Longaberger National Golf Club in Newark, Ohio over Memorial Day weekend.
On June 9, senior David Neuman won the Meijer Tour event held at the par 72, 6650-yard Coldwater Country Club shooting a fine score of 75.
Finally, on June 10, Welch shot a 76 for a strong third place showing at the AJGT event held the par 72, 7015-yard Boulder Creek Country Club in Grand Rapids.
Then in local action in the Michiana Junior tour event held June 11 at Morris Park Country Club in South Bend, Ind., Welch won the 16-plus age group with an even par round of 70, followed by Neuman in fourth place with a 78. Jeff Jurgonski finished in fifth place with a 82. In the 14-15 age group, Niles freshman Chris Noble shot an even par 70 to win his division.
