BERRIEN SPRINGS – In just five short innings, the Brandywine baseball team watched its season come to an end as the Kalamazoo Christian Comets posted a 10-0 win in the opening semifinal game of Saturday's Division 3 regional tournament in Berrien Springs.
The game lasted only five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Kalamazoo Christian's bats were awake, but the Bobcats seemed to be asleep on defense. The Comets scored at least one run in every inning, with the most coming in the seventh, where Christian put five runs on the scoreboard.
Brandywine pitcher Dan Reidenbach suffered the loss at the mound. Jake Harris and Jesse McCombs also pitched for the Bobcats. Andrew Jackson took the win for the Comets.
At the plate, Mark Onderline, Jackson and Nathan Young all had doubles for Kalamazoo Christian.
Brandywine ends its season with a 24-13 record.
