NILES - One of the major topics of discussion this week has been would a part-time Michigan legislature work?
Earlier in the week, the Niles Daily Star spoke to state Sen. Ron Jelinek and state Rep. Neal Nitz.
The Niles Daily Star asked Niles residents out and about on Friday afternoon their opinion on the subject.
Ed Reed, also of Niles, who had stopped in for a cool drink at Martin's Super Market was brief in his assessment.
Judy Dohm of Pokagon got off work early Friday and took her granddaughter to a movie and was sitting in Riverfront Park watching her play.
Amy Stanner of Niles thinks a part-time legislature would save money, but wonders if it may cut down on constituent services.
Esther Jones, a professional seamstress, was running errands Friday. She said, “Maybe that's what they have been doing and why we are in this shape now. I don't think that their working part-time would limit who would run, because they could do two part time jobs.”
The last word this week went to Chris Nye of Baroda. He manages an auto parts store in town.
Asked if he felt that part time representation could hurt constituency services, Nye said no.
