BRIDGMAN – The Lakeland Athletic Conference Board of Governors recently voted to increase the ticket price to $5 for varsity football and basketball games effective at the beginning of the 2007-08 school year.
Ticket prices for other sports will remain the same.
The Board of Governors is comprised of superintendents from the conference schools of Berrien Springs, Brandywine, Bridgman, Buchanan, Cassopolis, Coloma, Edwardsburg and River Valley. Bridgman served as the host district for the 2006-07 school year.
The last ticket price increase to $4 occurred during the 2000-01 school year. A survey of neighboring athletic conferences revealed that the Big 16, Wolverine and Kalamazoo Valley conferences were already at the $5 admission price.
Senior citizens will still be admitted free-of-charge and districts may continue to sell family passes at a reduced rate.
The $1 per ticket increase is expected to generate additional revenue for athletic programs at a time when future state funding for education is uncertain.
