NILES – The Tornados, a team in the Blossomland Soccer League, wanted a new field to call its home.
After playing at Ballard Elementary for the past few years, the team decided it wanted a real soccer field that would cater to the needs of the team and its fans. That's why it's a relief to finally be able to play on a field with nice facilities that most of the team members are familiar with.
Just this season, the Tornados began playing home games at Brandywine High School, and since most of its players are graduates of the school, the change just seemed to fit.
"The guys were playing on fields that had some obstacles that weren't conducive to games. I think this decision was a great one not only for the school, but the team and the Blossomland League itself," Brandywine athletic director Vance Stratton said.
Stratton is pleased that Brandywine's field can play host to other sports leagues and knows the guys appreciate the change.
"It's a great way for us to promote our facility. The team has done a great job of taking care of the field and I look forward to them continuing to play here in the future," Stratton added.
The Tornados are currently 1-4-1 on the season and will play its next home game on Sunday at 2 p.m. against the Internationals.
