Chief Thomas Atkinson of the Dowagiac Police Department reports that on May 30 at 8:40 a.m. officers responded to the area of the 100 block of Allen Street regarding a report of an assault.
Upon arrival, officers located a 33- year-old Allen Street resident bleeding from head trauma.
The injuries did not appear life- threatening, however, and the victim refused medical treatment.
The victim named his assailant and reported that while lying down in his home, the assailant entered his residence without permission and began to beat and choke him.
After inflicting injuries to the victim, his assailant fled the residence.
Shortly following initial investigation, officers while assisted by the Cass County Drug Enforcement Team (CCDET), located the suspect in the 400 block of Jefferson Street.
The suspect, Annise Lamont Nickens, a 33-year-old city resident, was taken into custody and charged with home invasion and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.
Bond was set at $30,000 cash/surety following his arraignment on Thursday, May 31, in the Fourth District Court, Cassopolis.
Further investigation continues in this matter by the Dowagiac Police Department.
