NILES – Niles' varsity soccer team's season was ended Tuesday night as the Vikes fell to St. Joseph in the first game of the DIvision 2 District Tournament.
The Vikings controlled the field of play in the first half, even though they gave up the only two goals of the game in the first half.
"We won most of the first touches on the ball and kept the ball on our side of the field for most of the first half, but we let the Bears sneak a ball in off a free kick deflection and another with an offensive break away," Niles coach Denise Peters continues. "I thought we played strong and cohesive as a team. It was nice to see us finally pull together and play as a team."
Peters said that Sarah Tyler, Meagan Horn and Alyssa Pingel dominated the middle of the field.
"Mandie Pingel, Alyssa Booe and Raphaella played well in the offensive positions, but just couldn't get the ball in the net. Heather Casey, Abby Mitchell, Bryanna Cramerand Rachel Smith played strong on defense. I thought Bree Donahue and Stephanie Kolloff came in and did a real nice job on the field. Autumn Lucero played a great game in the box and directed her team well from the position," Peters added.
