College baseball, softball teams wrap up busy 2007 seasons

BENTON HARBOR – Lake Michigan College wrapped up its softball season recently with a loss in the regional tournament to Kalamazoo Valley Community College.
The Lady Indians finished with a 29-14 overall record and placed third in the Western Conference.
Dowagiac freshman Maureen Pickar earned honorable mention all-conference.
Pickar was 12-7 on the year with an ERA of 1.72. She struck out 67 and walked just 14 in 122 innings of work. Pickar hit .333 with three doubles and 10 RBIs.
Dowagiac freshman Kim Luthringer hit .347 for LMC this season with seven doubles, two triples, three home runs and 23 RBIs.
Cassopolis sophomore Jessica Frucci hit .250 with five doubles and 16 RBIs.
Lake Michigan baseball
The Lake Michigan College baseball team finished the year with a 22-22 overall record and a fourth place finish in the Western Conference.
Niles sophomore John Kessick earned first team all-conference and all-region for the Indians. Kessick signed to continue his career at Wayne State University.
Kessick was 8-5 on the season with an era of 2.07. He struck out 72 and walked 28 in 74.1 innings of work.
Dowagiac freshman David Stuppy finished the year hitting .377 with five doubles, a triple, a home run and 27 RBIs. Stuppy also stole 15 bases to tie for the team lead.
Eastern Michigan softball
The Lady Eagles finished the season with a 27-22 overall record.
It was a record-setting year for Eastern Michigan, which won its first ever Mid-American Conference West Division championship and its first MAC tournament championship.
As a result, Eastern Michigan made its first ever appearance in the NCAA regional tournament.
Dowagiac's Kelly Tomczak appeared in seven games this season and finished with a record of 2-1. She had an ERA of 3.08 with 16 strikeouts. Tomczak had 21 plate appearances this year and finished with three RBIs.
Western Michigan softball
The Lady Broncos finished with a 20-23 overall record and a 12-10 mark in the Mid-American Conference.
Brandywine freshman Kelli Zache appeared in three games this past season for Western Michigan.
Dowagiac's Jenna Stuppy played in 42 games for the Lady Broncos, all of which were starts. Stuppy finished with a double and six RBIs.
Dowagiac freshman Brittney Reist played in 25 games, including 12 starts. She had a double, two home runs and nine RBIs. Reist also pitched seven times, including a pair of starts. She finished the year 0-2.
Northwood softball
The Timberwolves finished the year with a 20-23 overall record and a 11-9 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Brandywine's Reeta Echevarria hit .284 with seven doubles, one triple, one home run and 15 RBIs.
Dowagiac's Rachel Minikel hit .278 with two doubles, two home runs and 18 RBIs for Northwood this season.
