Brandywine baseball team captures Buck Classic

BUCHANAN – Brandywine captured the Buck Classic II baseball trophy by taking a 10-3 win over host Buchanan in the title contest Saturday afternoon.
Buchanan advanced to the title game with a 12 run outburst by the Bucks in game one to advance taking a 14-6 win over Gobles. Brandywine moved onto the title game with a 5-4 extra inning win in their first game of the day.
Buchanan came back against Gobles after falling behind 5-2 in the bottom of the fourth with a big 12 run rally to take the win. The Bobcats defeated Allegan 5-4 in eight innings for their ticket into the championship game.
In the consolation game, prior to the title match up, Allegan sent Gobles home win less with a 6-1 victory. Chris Byers scored the win on the mound for Allegan with Jordan Siwula getting hit with the loss.
In the championship game, Brandywine picked up the 10-3 win with 10 hits as Jake Harris picked up the win striking out nine Buchanan batters in six innings of work on the hill. Tyler Knisley was marked with the loss going five innings for the Bucks.
Brandywine scored a run in the second, two in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead. The Bobcats broke the game open in the in the top of the seventh pushing six runs across for a 10-0 lead. Buchanan plated their three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Brandywine was led at the plate by Jesse McCombs triple, a Kyle King double, Eric Rush going 2-for-4 and Brad Ritzkey batting 2-for-3 in the game. Buchanan was led by Mitchell Plott picking up three hits.
In the opening game for the Bucks Perry Wahlstrom recorded the victory and also went 2-for-3 and an RBI at the plate. Plott, Jon Mondschein, and Zack Powers each picking up two hits in the game with Plott cracking a triple, Mondschein a double. Aaron Koziel also had a double for the Bucks.
Brandywine's Harris came in for the Bobcats in the seventh for the first win of the day for the Cats. Allegan scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.
At the plate for Brandywine Noah Udell, Eric Rush, and Harris each picked up a pair of hits in the game with Harris stroking a double and a triple.
