Dowagiac senior Katie Roach and junior Jamie Simpson have been named the Daily News Athletes of the Week.
Roach helped Dowagiac win three out of four games last week with a batting average of .461 (6-of-13). Roach had a double, five runs scored and four RBIs in those four games.
On the mound, Roach posted a 2-1 record with 23 strikeouts. She allowed five runs, of which only one was earned.
Simpson helped Dowagiac to a sweep of Comstock on Friday, May 4, by saving the first game and then winning the second game in relief.
At the plate in the first game, Simpson had a home run and a double for the Chieftains, who are currently ranked No. 6 in the latest poll.
Each week the Daily News selects a female and a male Athlete of the Week. Coaches submit nominations to the Dowagiac Athletic Department, which then sends them on to the Daily News.
