Berrien puts up a battle

NILES – Berrien Springs gave Niles' varsity tennis team a run for its money Thursday evening.
The Vikings were able to claim a 5-3 victory over the Shamrocks, giving Niles one of its closest matches in a few weeks.
The strong performance of the Vikes' doubles teams helped them escape with the win.
Jordan Parks and Zak Herrmann posted a 6-0, 7-6 win at No. 1 doubles against Kasey Zanderski and Lonnie Reid.
At No. 2 doubles, Tad Raven and Zach Payne played three sets before a winner was decided. The two won the first set, 6-4, fell in the second, 6-4 and rebounded for another 6-4 win in the third set.
Scott Bailey and Julius Roessner defeated Matt Bacon and Jared McCarver, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 doubles, while Jon Rothfuchs and Kyle Lee handed Jacob Jeong and Cynda Harris a 6-0, 6-0 loss.
In singles play, Nate Fink was the lone Viking to claim a win, defeating Justin Kim, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
Danny Rodts fell to Dvid Moskala at No.1 singles, 6-0, 6-4. Julian Freas suffered a 6-2, 6-3 loss to James Yoon at No. 2 singles and Josh Pugh fell to Drew Teed, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
Niles will travel to the SMAC Crowss Over match at the Central site on Monday at 4 p.m.
