NILES – The Buchanan varsity soccer team earned a Lakeland Conference win over visiting Edwardsburg Monday evening.
The Lady Bucks posted a 3-2 score and held off a strong Eddies comeback in the final minutes of the game.
Leah Hunt opened up the scoring for Buchanan, getting the first goal of the game during the second minute of the first half. Hunt's goal was assisted by Andrea Hemminger.
Rachel Bahr, who had 16 saves at the bet for the Bucks, scored Buchanan's second goal during the 22nd minute, allowing Buchanan to post a 2-0 advantage over the Eddies. Amanda Wynn provided the assist for Bahr.
Edwardsburg first goal of the game came shortly after Bahr scored. During the 23rd minute, Brea Eden sent the ball in the net for the Eddies. At halftime, the score read 2-1, in favor of the Bucks.
Hemminger opened the second half with a goal for the Bucks during the 49th minute. Alexis Reagan assisted Hemminger.
It took almost 15 minutes for the Eddies to score again, but a strong comeback attempt saw Amanda Mooth score another goal for Edwardsburg during the 63rd minute.
That was the last time the Eddies would be able to score as the Bucks' strong defense held off any other chance of a comeback.
Laura Donath had eight saves at the net for the Eddies.
Buchanan had 11 shots on goal, while Edwardsburg had 19.
The Bucks are back in action with another conference match on Thursday when they host Bridgman.
