Buchanan JV, varsity netters shine Saturday

NILES – Saturday was a great day for the Buchanan JV and varsity tennis teams.
The junior varsity Bucks won the Sturgis Invitational for the second year in a row, while the varsity team claimed the Almont Tournament title.
Buchanan's JV team posted a score of 22 points in Sturgis. Battle Creek Lakeview finished with 13 points, Coldwater ended with seven and host Sturgis finished with one point.
The varsity team had a score of 19 points, with Warren DeLaSalle coming in second with 13. Almont and Romeo each had eight points.
Flight winners on the day were True Sulier (No.1 singles), Mario Bonardi (No. 2 singles), Dillon Bailey and Andrew Frederick (No. 2 doubles), Sean Thornton and Gabriel Meirelles (No. 3 doubles) and Andrew Scoggin and Josh Niven (No. 4 doubles).
"We had a monumental day overcoming two obstacles our team has been battling this season – A, We won the key matches at the end of the day and B, we played better as the day progressed," Buchanan varsity coach Steve Bender said. "There was not an easy match all day."
