Vikes take two at Coldwater Invite Saturday

NILES – The Niles varsity baseball team competed in the Coldwater Invitational Saturday, coming away with two victories.
In the first game, the Vikings defeated Swartz Creek, 1-0.
Both teams remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning, when Niles scored its first and only run of the game.
Jake Ferguson took the win on the mound for Niles.
In the second game, the Vikes handed Coldwater a 3-2 loss.
Mike Simpson took the win on the mound for Niles, with D.J. Wolnik picking up the save.
Top hitters were Simpson, who went 1-for-3 with a double. Tim Hardy also went 1-for-3 with a double. Cory Post went 2-for-3 with a double and Jesse Siler went 1-for-3 with a double.
Niles, now 3-1 on the season, will host Portage Northern tonight at 5 p.m. for a make-up game that was supposed to take place last week.
