KALAMAZOO – Western Michigan's softball team had its doubleheader against Loyola-Chicago on Thursday canceled by the bad weather.
The Lady Broncos, which dropped a 1-0 decision to Michigan State University on Tuesday, is scheduled to head back into action on Saturday when it travels to DeKalb, Ill. to take on Northern Illinois in a Mid-American Conference game.
Western Michigan is 12-13 on the season.
Eastern Michigan softball
The Lady Eagles knocked off Notre Dame on Tuesday, 2-1.
It was the first time since April 1 that Eastern Michigan was able to play softball. The Lady Eagles had six straight games canceled due to the weather.
Dowagiac's Kelly Tomczak was 0-for-1 as a pinch hitter.
Eastern Michigan is now 11-15 on the season heading into today's home opener against Mid-American Conference foe Central Michigan.
Lake Michigan baseball
The Indians split a Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western College Conference doubleheader with Kellogg Community College.
Niles' John Kessick and Matt Bolin combined to help LMC to the 10-9 win in extra innings.
Bolin picked up the win in relief.
LMC (10-12 overall, 4-2 WCC) dropped the second game, 4-1.
Dowagiac freshman David Stuppy is hitting .347 through April 12, with a double, a home run and nine RBIs. Stuppy also has six stolen bases.
Kessick is now 4-3 on the season with an ERA of 2.88. Kessick has struck out 38 hitters in 40.2 innings pitched.
Thursday's conference doubleheader with Lansing Community College was postponed by weather.
Lake Michigan is scheduled to host Muskegon Community College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Lake Michigan softball
The Lake Michigan College Western Collegiate Conference doubleheader with Lansing Community College on Thursday was postponed due to weather.
The Lady Indians, 12-6 overall and 8-2 in league play, are scheduled to play on Saturday at Muskegon Community College.
Northwood softball
The Timberwolves have had four straight doubleheaders canceled by the weather.
Northwood (12-11 overall and 5-3 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) is scheduled to try again on Saturday when they travel to host Wayne State University.
Hope baseball
The Hope College baseball team had its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association doubleheader with Kalamazoo College on Thursday canceled due to the weather.
The two teams will try to make that doubleheader up today.
Hope split a MIAA doubleheader from Albion College on Monday.
Hope blanked Albion 2-0 in the first game, but dropped the second game, 5-4.
Dowagiac junior Rich Burling was 1-for-2 in the opening game.
Burling is hitting .306 with a double and three RBIs for the Flying Dutchmen. He has a slugging percentage of .333 and an on-base percentage of .359.
Niles' Matt Richardson has appeared in three games and has an ERA of 3.09 in 11.2 inning pitched. He has struck out nine and walked just one.
Hope College is 11-8 overall and 6-4 in the MIAA.
