The library is sponsoring a two-day Radio Theatre Workshop on April 14 and 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The workshop will cover the history of radio theatre, music and sound effects.
The participants will rehearse and perform an original script. The performance will be recorded on May 12 and made available through a Podcast online soon afterwards. For details, or to register, call the library at (269) 683-8545 ext. 2. Pre-registration is required.
The workshop is being presented by Donald Ramlow, co-founder/producer of All Ears Theatre of Kalamazoo. He is one of the leaders in preserving the rich heritage and art form of radio theater through presentations on the many facets of classic radio.
Funding for the project is being provided by the Michigan Humanities Council and the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.
In May 2005 the library held a very successful Reader's Theatre Workshop series which has developed into Library Voices, a group of creative people who meet on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month from 1 to 3 p.m.
The group explores literature through dramatic readings. They have performed at the library and with the Four Flags Players, the local community theater troupe.
The Lardner Writers Ring was established in July 2006. Writers share their work and receive feedback from other writers.
The group is open to aspiring, amateur and accomplished writers. Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. All writers are welcome.
The Radio Theatre Workshop will utilize the talents of both of these groups. The writers will provide the script and the actors will perform. Tentative plans are being made for an ongoing radio theater Podcast.
