Tanke, club soccer team compete in Italy

NILES – Niles High School graduate and varsity soccer standout Michael Tanke recently got back from playing several soccer games in Italy with his club soccer team from Indianapolis, Ind.
The team visited the country from April 1-9. While in Italy, they played two friendlies with local club teams in the Florence, Italy. They played Cuoi Pella Cappiano Romaiano and U.S. Sporting Arno.
They then traveled to Lake Como to compete in the Como Lake Cup, bringing home a second place trophy. The team finished the tournament 2-1-1. They competed on a field that was in established in 1909.
Tanke scored a goal against the Italian team from Lairo, Italy in a 4-0 victory. The Indy Burn Eagles' only loss came from a Switzerland team.
In addition to playing soccer, the boys and parents visited the cities of Pisa, Florence, Milan, Como and Bellagio. They also had the opportunity to visit the training facilities for the Italian national teams, and everyone attended the AC Milan vs. Empoli FC professional soccer game at the famous San Siro Stadium.
