Edwardsburg steals one

EDWARDSBURG – Monty Ort stole home in the bottom of the ninth inning to give host Edwardsburg a 8-7 victory over visiting Brandywine in Lakeland Conference action on Tuesday.
The Eddies tied the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth and then won the game in extra inning to remain undefeated on the season.
Edwardsburg is now 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the league. The Bobcats fell to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Both teams scored two runs in the first inning.
The two schools then exploded for a combined nine runs in the fifth inning.
Brandywine grabbed a 7-2 lead with five runs in the top of the fifth. Edwardsburg closed the game to 7-6 with four runs in the bottom half of the frame.
Taylor Ort (1-0) picked up the victory in relief of Monty Ort. Taylor Ort worked two innings, striking out three. He did not allow a run, a hit or a walk.
Monty Ort allowed two earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and four walks.
Corey Johnson had three hits for the Eddies, while Monty Ort doubled. Edwardsburg finished with eight hits, as did Brandywine.
The second game was canceled due to darkness.
