Brandywine softball team sweeps host Edwardsburg

EDWARDSBURG – Visiting Brandywine opened up their 2007 softball season with a sweep of host Edwardsburg in Lakeland Conference play.
The Lady Bobcats (2-0, 2-0 Lakeland) won the first game 4-0 and then took the nightcap, 7-2.
Kendra Zache (1-0) tossed a one-hitter with 16 strikeouts in the first game for Brandywine.
The Lady Bobcats scored two runs in the first and second innings to account for the scoring.
Brandywine finished with five hits, two of which came off the bat of Zache. Brooke Caslton also had two hits. Both drove in a run.
Jenny Bollenbacher took the loss for the Lady Eddies as she allowed five hits with eight strikeouts.
In the second game, Zache allowed five hits with eight strikeouts.
Brandywine had nine hits. Angela Newman and Becky Modlin both had two hits. Modlin doubled, tripled and drove in a run.
Edwardsburg had Toney with two hits, including a double. Burton also doubled for the Lady Eddies.
Bollenbacher suffered the loss as she allowed nine hits with three strikeouts.
