Fellow fisherman, it's time to uncover your boat, dust off your electronics and start panfishing.
With the temperatures being in the 50s through 70s for the last three weeks, and this cold front arriving, the lake temps are in the lower 50s, the panfish are starting the pre-swawn.
Dayton Lake is producing good numbers of Crappies using jigging methods tipped with minnows and trolling small shallow diving baits off the drop off.
Fishing in the next few weeks should be getting shallow. Start looking for fish on the beds between 2- to 12-inches of water.
Other area lakes like Eagle, Juno and Paridise are starting to produce fish, along the shallow weed beds using bobber techniques with wax worms and minnows.
Barron Lake is advised to be closed for the month of April because of a weed aradication chemical.
They are trying to give a better environment for the fish that will increase growth and numbers of old.
Remember the St. Joe River is also a good panfish water way, target back water and log jams. Try jigging and bobber fishing experimenting with different types of baits.
When fishing these bodies of water remember that there are some species of fish that are out of season and it is unlawful to target them, so check the fishing guide for closings and openings of certain species.
Finally, when fishing these water ways try to leave the water that you use there or if you have to, drain your live wells at home.
And please remember to rinse your boat off before traveling to a different body of water that gives the fellow fisherman their chance to do their part by not spreading aqautic wild life.
Good fishing, God Bless and remember to put those plugs in. We will see you on the water.
