NILES – The NEXTEL Cup drivers will have the weekend off for Easter.
But that doesn't mean drivers are sitting at home doing nothing.
NASCAR wrapped up a testing session at Richmond (Va.) on Wednesday with the "Car of Tomorrow."
The car has gotten mixed reviews from drivers through the first two races, but those were short tracks. The "Car of Tomorrow" now takes to the intermediate tracks.
"Well, this is a very frustrating car from what we're used to," Elliott Sadler said in a NASCAR teleconference on Wednesday. "As a driver with the old car, if the car is a little tight, you can make it a little bit loose. If the car is a little bit loose, you can do things inside the car to make it a little bit tight. This is what you've got is what you've got. If the car is tight, it's just going to be tight. If the car is loose, it's just going to be loose."
NASCAR has already mandated changes to the car, especially with the foam inside the doors.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. thinks additional changes will be made as time goes by.
"I think that with the COT we'll learn a lot of little nuances and things like that within the car and make changes as we go with NASCAR. They've done a great job up to this point. They're being real lenient in a lot of areas with the car. As we start to understand it, they'll start to tighten the grip a little bit on the technical inspection and whatnot."
The NEXTEL Cup drivers are back in action on Sunday, April 15 at Texas Motor Speedway.
