Local college athletes still going strong

NILES – Dowagiac junior Rich Burling is currently hitting .294 with a double and three RBIs for the Hope College baseball team.
Former Niles standout Matt Richardson has appeared in three games for the Flying Dutchmen and has an ERA of 3.09 in 11.2 innings pitched.
Hope is 10-7 on the year and 5-3 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
The Flying Dutchmen were scheduled to play a game on Tuesday, however, the MIAA commissioner canceled all games. Hope is slated to host Albion College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Eastern Michigan softball
The Lady Eagles are 3-1 in the Mid-American Conference and 10-15 overall.
Kelly Tomczak is 2-1 on the year with an ERA of 3.00. Tomczak had made five appearances for Eastern Michigan and has worked 23.1 innings with 10 strikeouts.
Western Michigan softball
The Lady Broncos are 9-11 overall and 1-3 in the Mid-American Conference.
Jenna Stuppy is hitting .220 with a double and six RBIs, while Brittany Reist is hitting .148 with a double, two home runs and nine RBIs.
Lake Michigan softball
The Lady Indians improved to 12-6 overall and are 8-2 in the Western College Conference following a sweep of defending champion Kalamazoo Community College.
In the second game on Tuesday, Dowagiac freshman Kim Luthringer hit her second home run of the year, a three-run shot, to help Dowagiac's Maureen Pickar pick up the victory.
Northwood softball
The Timberwolves are 12-11 on the season and 3-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Dowagiac's Rachel Minikel is hitting .333 with a double, a home run and five RBIs.
Brandywine's Reeta Echevarria is hitting .224 with two doubles, a triple and nine RBIs.
Michigan State
Dowagiac freshman David Stuppy is off to a great start for the Lake Michigan College baseball team.
Stuppy is currently hitting .359 with eight stolen bases, a home run and three doubles.
Niles sophomore John Kessick is now 4-3 on the mound with an ERA of 2.15.
The Indians are 9-11 overall and 3-1 in the Western Collegiate Conference.
