Local college athletes doing well in competition

HOLLAND – Northwood was swept by Alma College, 2-1 and 6-5.
Former Brandywine standout Reeta Echevarria is hitting .243 on the year with eight RBIs.
Dowagiac's Rachel Minikel was 1-for-3 in the first game and drove in a run in the second game for Northwood.
Minikel is hitting .250 with a home run and three RBIs on the season.
Holland baseball
Dowagiac junior Rich Burling scored a run in the first game to help Hope College sweep Alma College on Wednesday.
The Flying Dutchmen improved to 4-0 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association and 9-4 overall with the two victories.
Hope topped Alma 10-3 in the first game and 6-5 in the nightcap.
Western Michigan softball
The Western Michigan Lady Broncos swept Oakland University in a pair of 3-0 games on Wednesday.
Dowagiac sophomore Brittany Reist had a two-run double in the first game, while former Chieftain standout Jenna Stuppy was 1-for-4 in the second game and is hitting .306 with six RBIs.
