NILES – The body of a man pulled from the St. Joseph River in Niles, just north of the state line, on Tuesday is that of Thomas Miller, 48, of Mishawaka, Ind.
Miller has been missing since Nov. 7, 2006.
Michigan State Police D/Sgt. Fabian Suarez reported the body was identified by the Berrien County medical examiner.
It is unknown how or where Miller entered the Saint Joseph River. No indications of foul play were discovered in the autopsy performed Wednesday at Lakeland Hospital in Saint Joseph.
The Michigan State Police Post in Niles had been called to assist the South Bend and Clay Township Fire Departments on the St. Joseph River near Bertrand and Cobb Roads in Berrien County, after firefighters on a training mission found a body entangled in a brushy snag along the bank.
Just prior to finding the body, firefighters found a deceased pet, which matched the description of the pet of Vivian Borysiak, who has been missing since Feb. 3, 2007, from South Bend, Ind.
Any information about the missing person's case on Thomas Miller will be now be addressed by the Mishawaka Police Department.
