Burling helps Hope get off to 7-4 start

HOLLAND – The Hope College baseball team swept its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener from Alma College.
The Flying Dutchmen defeated Alma 9-0 and 3-1 to improve to 7-4 overall and 2-0 in the MIAA.
Hope College was scheduled to face Alma again on Monday in a twin bill before traveling to Adrian on Thursday for a MIAA doubleheader.
Former Dowagiac standout Rich Burling, a transfer from Lake Michigan College, is hitting .375 with a double and three RBIs.
Burling has played in seven of Hope's 11 games, drawing six starts. His average is third best on the squad.
Former Niles pitcher Matt Richardson has made two appearances for the Flying Dutchmen. Richard has worked nine innings and has an ERA of 4.00. He has six strikeouts.
