It's a sure sign spring is near when we can get outdoors, enjoy near perfect temperatures in short sleeve shirts and the little buds are starting to bloom in the flower beds.
Another sure sign of spring is the filth left over from the long, gloomy winter months.
Many side streets and country roads are lined with trash, making some streets look more like a dump than anything. Fast food bags, garbage bags filled with who knows what, even soda cans and boxes are a few of the items making our streets look trashy.
This can also be very harmful to the wildlife in the area as our friendly little creatures may mistake plastic bags and other harmful items as food. Once it's eaten, they can either choke or become very ill.
It's important to keep trash off the ground as much as possible. If you're tired of trash being in your vehicle, carry along a trash bag to throw your stuff in. That way, when you reach a trash can, it's just a one-step process. Trash not only pollutes the air, but can be harmful to our water as well.
Also keep in mind that it's a hefty fine if you get caught littering.
With the wonderful temperatures forecast for this week, let's take some time to get outdoors and help clean up the messes. It doesn't take long and a few handfuls can go a long way, especially if you get family and friends together to help.
It's also the perfect opportunity to get some exercise!
Let's clean up our streets and welcome spring in a big way!
