CASSOPOLIS – Cass County Prosecutor Victor A. Fitz has charged Darrel Danzy, 37, with 22 felony counts, including 20 counts of forgery and two related conspiracy charges.
Fitz said Friday the charges resulted from Danzy's alleged activities during February and March 2007 at 102 Ashland St. in the City of Dowagiac.
His maximum penalty if convicted is 14 years.
The defendant was arrested March 22 and arraigned March 23 before Fourth District Judge Paul E. Deats.
Danzy's arrest resulted from coordinated efforts by Dowagiac Police Department, Cass County Sheriff's Office and the FBI, with cooperation from civilian officials.
Fitz said the investigation indicates Danzy's involvement in a multi-jurisdictional fraud ring.
Citizens, businesses and financial institutions should be on guard for fraudulent checks being distributed in their communities.
