The Volunteer Center of Southwest Michigan and the United Way of Southwest Michigan are seeking projects for this year's Week of Caring, May 14 to 18.
This year, the volunteer opportunities and events of the annual "Day of Caring" have been extended to several days to allow for more impact in the community and additional volunteer participation.
The Week of Caring will begin with an after-work kickoff, followed by three days of volunteer opportunities and will culminate in a golf outing sponsored by Midwest Family Broadcasting to benefit United Way of Southwest Michigan.
Non-profits in Berrien and Cass Counties are encouraged to submit one or more projects that will engage volunteers and strengthen their organization. A broad variety of projects are being sought, both short and all-day are encouraged.
This year United Way and the Goodfellows Fund are offering a limited number of $100 Mini-Grants to assist non-profits by offsetting the cost of project supplies.
Project and Mini-Grant applications may be obtained by calling United Way at 925-7772, or online at www.uwsm.org and are due at the United Way office by noon on March 26. Information for potential volunteers will be available at the beginning of April. This year, projects will be selected by companies (not assigned by United Way) from a booklet, on a first-come, first-served basis. Projects must be selected through the booklet and then connected through contact with United Way.
United Way of Southwest Michigan invests in organizations and outcomes that develop assets in children, enhance people's ability to be self-sufficient and provide stability to vulnerable populations. The Volunteer Center mobilizes people and resources to deliver creative solutions to community problems.
